WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Cairo’s Egyptian Museum houses the collection of King Tutankhamun.

Arrive at the Egyptian Museum in the heart of Cairo an air-conditioned minivan after being picked up from your hotel.

As you travel, your personal, knowledgeable Egyptologist guide will provide you with an insightful overview of the museum. Tell your guide if there is anything you would like to see more or less of. You can customise the schedule of your tour to suit your interests.

The museum houses around 165,000 Egyptian artefacts, but its most valuable collection is the Tut Ankh Amun collection, which includes a variety of artefacts from the child pharaoh’s reign, such as his gold death mask and six gilded coffins.

Numerous more priceless items, such as commonplace items, tombs, jewellery, and mummies from the prehistoric Egyptian to the Roman periods, are also kept in the museum.

It can be intimidating to know where to begin, so let your guide take you through the main points. See the exhibits of Tut Ankh Amun, which include his magnificent death mask made of solid gold, his chariot, and other treasures from his tomb. Additionally, take in additional prize displays including commonplace items and pharaonic sarcophagi.

Roman burial art, among other things.

Visit the Royal Mummies Room, another museum exhibit, if you’d like (extra charge). Visit this climate-controlled chamber to see the mummies of Egyptian pharaohs, including Ramses II, the man who constructed Luxor’s Karnak Temple.

Your guide will show you the highlights before allowing you to explore the area at your own pace.

After seeing the museum, if you’d like, you can study more about this ancient writing and art form that was once painted onto papyrus canvases by going to a Papyrus Institute. Before your tour comes to a close with a hotel drop-off, consider purchasing some papyrus scenes as keepsakes (at your own cost).
