WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

To explore the Theban necropolis, a knowledgeable tour guide will pick you up from your Luxor hotel or Nile Cruise.

Begin your exclusive day excursion with King Ramses II’s memorial temple, the Ramesseum. The statue of Ramses II, which stands 19 metres (62 feet) tall and weighs over a thousand tonnes (of which only pieces remain), is the main attraction of the Ramesseum temple. The walls of the only partially surviving Ramesseum Temple are adorned with reliefs that show scenes from the Syrian wars, the Festival of Amon Min, and the Battle of Kadesh.

Head to the Habu Temple of Ramses III, the final ruler of the New Kingdom (1550–1080 BC) to have significant power over Egypt. Of all the memorial temples in the New Kingdom, the Temple has the best preservation. It is adorned with battle scenes and narratives that depict the king’s conquests as well as the customs and holidays observed. Living quarters for priests and administrative buildings were located on either side of the temple, with a royal palace constructed in the south of the open plaza.

Continue your tour to the Valley of the Nobles, where the tombs of prominent Egyptian nobles and officials are arranged among the rocky hills at the El Qurna site on the West Bank of Luxor. Most of the tombs are from the Golden Age of Thebes, the New Kingdom. Ancient Egyptian culture and religious beliefs may be learned a great deal from these tombs, which are adorned with scenes from daily life, funerals, and the perfect afterlife of their owners. The skill and inventiveness of the ancient Egyptian artisans are also demonstrated by their beauty. See Sennofer’s Tomb, the former Theban mayor. There are some exquisite original prints of grapevines and harvesting scenes on this monument.

As the final sightseeing, you will visit The Hathor Temple of Deir el-Medina. Built by Ptolemy IV Philopator, the Ptolemaic era temple is one of the largest structures in the workers’ village of Deir el-Medina. It was dedicated to goddesses Hathor and Maat.

After finishing, you will be transferred back to your Nile Cruise or hotel in Luxor.
